Program Description
Skirball Hospice patients and families receive these services:
- Full team of professionals responsive to patient and family needs at all times, including nights and weekends
- Case management services related to the life-limiting diagnosis
- State-of-the-art pain control and symptom management
- Emotional and spiritual support
- 24-hour availability to respond to a change in condition
- Bathing and personal hygiene visits
- Durable medical equipment, such as hospital beds, walkers and oxygen
- Diagnosis-related drugs that maintain comfort or alleviate symptoms
- When needed, extended nursing visits at home to manage short periods of medical crisis
- Short-term respite placement for caregiver relief, when indicated
- Support visits and assistance, day or night, when a patient expires
Your Hospice Team
Your Skirball Hospice interdisciplinary team of professionals partners with your own physician to care for you at home:
- Hospice physicians for consultation and supervision of your plan of care
- Licensed nurses who are highly skilled in pain management, symptom control, and supportive care
- Social workers to relieve the emotional pain and stress of patients and families, address financial concerns, and assist with resources for attendant needs and final arrangements
- Spiritual counselors who offer guidance and support to patients, families, and loved ones
- Registered dietitian to assess nutritional needs and to provide education and advice
- Volunteers who provide companionship, respite, and support
- Certified home health aides for personal care visits
- Physical, occupational, and speech therapy consultation and instruction when needed for safety or symptom relief
- Bereavement counselors to provide grief support to our hospice families, caregivers, and loved ones
